Australia Faces Growing Concerns Over Gambling Harm in Online Platforms
Australia has one of the highest rates of gambling participation in the world, and the rise of online gambling platforms has amplified concerns about gambling-related harm. A recent study revealed that nearly 40% of Australians who gamble online have experienced some form of financial distress due to their activity.

In response, the Australian government is considering new legislation that would introduce mandatory loss limits for online gamblers, as well as stricter controls on advertising during live sports broadcasts. Additionally, a national self-exclusion register for online gambling platforms is being developed to help problem gamblers take a break from their activities.
Despite these measures, some advocacy groups argue that more needs to be done, such as banning credit card use for online gambling and increasing funding for addiction treatment programs.
